The summer months are a great time for barbecues, pool parties and grilling out. But when family and guests aren’t as tidy with their food and drinks as you’d like, your carpet and upholstery can suffer.
Learn how to clean tough carpet spots caused by a few of the foods and beverages that are often enjoyed during the summertime.
- Soft drinks. Apply a solution of one quart water with one teaspoon of white vinegar and one teaspoon of mild detergent, bearing in mind that most over-the-counter detergents tend to leave a residue if not rinsed properly.
- Mustard. Soak the soiled area with diluted ammonia. Then dry with a hairdryer.
- Red wine. Use club soda to flush the wine from the carpet fibers.
- Ketchup spots. Sponge the area with cool water, then blot (don’t rub) with a mix of one tablespoon of liquid hand dishwashing detergent and two cups warm water.
Remember that certain types of carpet and materials may require more specialized treatment. If you cannot remove the spot yourself, ServiceMaster Clean in a Wink is available to help. Call 316-219-9696 and ask about our summer specials for carpet cleaning.
